Social Media- The Visual Market of Connecting People
Do we realize the extent of Social Media?
When the year 2019 came to an end, the user count was about 295,00,00,000. And that’s around 38.91% of the current world's population. Interestingly, the user count might reach up to 5 billion by 2024.
Just imagine, what's the most blissful moment of your daily routine?
Food, sleep, friends, parents? We all have read these were the basic needs of any human being. But as of now, probably the definition of daily
routine work is spending hours of our precious time on social media sites.
Nearly about 82 of 100 people start their morning by checking our smartphones. If I say about myself, I do the same day in day out. As compared to 10 years ago, when I waited for the morning to play cricket
on the ground with my friends, we have changed.
Today, we are loaded with so many social media applications to indulge. Obviously, it depends on us, how we use it, and for what purpose it may be. But basically, social media is known as a continuously evolving life-changing episode, where it's impacting both personal or professional lives. No one had ever thought that one day they will encounter such a thing in their lives which will revolutionalize their social relationships through a digital platform, where they can socialize, interact
with other people (known/unknown) and allow others to access our
information in a matter of seconds. Everyone is connected in this world, 24x7. It includes all professions without any barrier whatsoever. From marketers, teachers to families, and friends. Displaying the photos, videos, or memes has become a trend.
Most people are getting crazy during these lockdown days, especially in a country like INDIA, where 70% of the national population is youngsters, and about 90% of them have accounts on various social media platforms.
Some of the most used or popular apps are:-
1)Snapchat – 229 million active users.
2) Whatsapp – 1.6 billion active users.
3) Twitter – 262 million active users.
4) LinkedIn – 260 million active users.
5) Instagram – 660 million active users.
6) Tiktok - 800 million active users.
7) Pinterest – 320 million active users.
And last comes the giant of social media, who revolutionized it all.
8) Facebook - 1.7 billion active users.
It’s hard to believe that, only a decade ago, social media was little
Fast forward to 2020, and social media has become not only a key part of
the modern lifestyle but a useful marketing channel for businesses of
all sizes. Yesterday, a friend commented (on Facebook of course) that
her elementary-age kids were stunned to know that phones were only used for conversations a few years ago. They were dumbfounded to hear that we didn’t even carry phones with us 15 years ago. This tells me that
everything has officially and permanently changed. The coming generation can’t even imagine a world without internet and social networking, that has officially embedded itself in our culture. As someone who spends nearly every waking hour connected in some way, including both personal and business, this really hits home for me.
According to me, social media is a communication medium, it comes with its pros and cons. Overall, what I believe is, it is making the world a better place in many ways.
- It has given us a voice to express, where people do hear you.
- It has helped us to reach places we couldn't have traveled.
- It has given us a means of entertainment, unlike any other.
- It has made us accountable to an audience we cater to.
- It has helped to continue our childhood passions.
- Moreover, it has made us realize, we aren't alone, and being different is okay in this big bad, and beautiful world.
Yes, social media has its fair share of disadvantages and arguments but doesn't it depend on the people who use it?
That implies one thing which holds us responsible to use social media responsibly.
