How are you? I hope you are doing absolutely fantastic.
We all have been following the traditional way of learning since our forefathers. But currently, due to compulsion or by choice, aren't we all getting habituated with the digital form of education and enjoying it as well?
There have been pandemics before, which has uprooted the necessary foundation of routine and balanced life around the world. But, never back were we so adamant about fighting it without surrendering our weapons. And probably, Digital learning was one of those weapons which led us to survive these days. Can you imagine what you would have done without using your mobile phones, without working, and without learning??
Pandemic or not, education has evolved. It's way cooler than before. Grabbing our phones or laptops to learn, feels like more like a habit than a tedious process of studying. What can be better, if all the information you need to enrich ourselves is available on the tips of our fingers? People naturally get attracted and try to adopt facilities that provide ease, convenience, and accessibility and saves time. Digital learning attracts many because it involves the use of pictures, videos, graphics, and other exciting means of knowledge appealing to students or learners. Students absolutely love visually appealing things that are interactive and allow users to participate, and the digitalized platform provides just that. The more fun a subject becomes, the more the student is fascinated by it.
“Students do not learn much just sitting in classes listening to teachers, memorizing prepackaged assignments, and spitting out answers. They must talk about what they are learning, write reflectively about it, relate it to past experiences, and apply it to their daily lives. They must make what they learn part of themselves.” - Arthur W. Chickering and Stephen C. Ehrmann
Let's see how it has helped us from three different. perspectives-
It is always observed that students tend to grasp the content taught faster than usual when they are prepared with relevant real-life examples. While it is possible both in traditional teaching and digital learning, but digital learning has the advantage of editing and correction as it is not physically printed. This is probably one of the primary reasons why the entire educational system has been adopting it recently right from kinder garden to the highest level of education, turning traditional classrooms into smart classrooms, including the use of large LED screens and projectors.
It has not only become easy and convenient for the students but also has been of great help to the teachers who can back their content with visuals, can keep a track record, give students 24*7 access to information and give unbiased attention. The increase in digital learning has undoubtedly provided a robust platform for better communication and ease of sharing doubts between teachers and students.
It is a boon for the parents because they can actually monitor what their child is studying since they are the ones who should take responsibility for their children to do their studies and homework. There are also plenty of opportunities for them to grow on their knowledge and skills and to stay updated with the latest trends through digital learning, which can help them create a continuous learning environment in their households. Moreover, it is making them more compassionate about their child's problems.
Though it was inevitable with the surge in usage of mobile phones and the advent of technology. Digital learning has gained immense popularity among learners because it provides a great deal of flexibility; it allows them to study anytime, anywhere, at their own convenient speed without having them follow a particular schedule or a timetable. Educators across the world have researched, developed, evaluated, and shared numerous ways to improve learning through the use of digital platforms. All this being paperless also contributes to mother earth in a small way and helps humans to manage data better. Isn't it amazing to see how Digital learning has broken all cultural and geographical barriers, allowing us to have access to information available worldwide?
“People expect to be bored by eLearning—let’s show them it doesn’t have to be like that!” - Cammy Bean
It has indeed been an enjoyable experience watching education and teaching finally constructively evolving before our eyes. How else would I have been connected with all of you?
